1. Poke: Whether it’s shoyu, spicy, tako, sweet chili, etc.. You can never go wrong!
For those of you who are not familiar with Poke, here is a little more info! Poke is a raw salad served as an appetizer in Hawaiian cuisine.
Modern poke typically consists of cubed ʻahi (yellowfin tuna) sashimi marinated with sea salt, a small amount of soy sauce, inamona (roasted crushed candlenut), sesame oil, limuseaweed, and chopped chili pepper. Other variations’ ingredients may include cured heʻe(octopus), other types of raw tuna, raw salmon and other kinds of sashimi, sliced or diced Maui onion, furikake, hot sauce (such as sambal olek), chopped ʻohiʻa (tomato), tobiko (flying fish roe), ogo or other types of seaweed, and garlic.
The selection of condiments has been heavily influenced by Japanese and other Asian cuisines.
2. Edamame (Regular or Seasoned): The edamame bean is a preparation of immature soybeans in the pod, found in the cuisine of Japan, China and Hawaii. The pods are boiled or steamed and served with salt.
3. Fried Calamari: It consists ofbatter-coated, deep fried squid, fried for less than two minutes to prevent toughness. It is served plain, with salt and lemon on the side.
4. Mini Loco Moco: What is a Loco Moco you ask….Loco moco is a traditional meal in Hawaiian cuisine. There are many variations, but the essential loco moco consists of white rice, topped with a hamburger patty, a fried egg, and brown gravy. Variations may include chili, bacon, ham, Spam, kalua pork, linguiça, teriyaki beef, teriyaki chicken, mahi-mahi, shrimp, oysters, and other meats.
5. Kalua Pork Sliders: Kalua pork is one of the favorite local foods in Hawaii. It goes great with rice, cabbage, lau lau, and other Hawaiian foods.
